Where should I stay?
Out of town guests are welcome to stay at the Marriott La Jolla or W Hotel San Diego. (For guests who are flying into town, the W Hotel is very close to the airport as well as major attractions like the Gaslamp, San Diego Zoo, and Balboa Park.) We have posted the guaranteed room block rates above, though it’s worthwhile to check the hotel websites or call prior to booking to see if a lower rate is available prior to booking.
(Allegra and Brian are staying at the W Hotel. There’s a good chance there will be a bit of an after-wedding shindig downtown. So young people, consider the W Hotel.)
If you are planning to stay elsewhere in town, westrongly encourage you to make reservations early, as hotels and rental homes will be at maximum capacity in mid-July, and prices are very high during this time of year.
What should I do in San Diego?
Summer in San Diego is amazing! Local attractions include the world famous San Diego Zoo and Safari Park, Sea World. (TIP: check the hotel front desk for discounted tickets.) There are countless beaches; some of our favorites are Torrey Pines, Del Mar, La Jolla Shores and La Jolla Cove. If you want to get your feet wet, try kayaking at La Jolla Cove or surfing lessons at La Jolla Shores. For those looking to stay dry, hikers and golfers alike can find plenty of land-based outdoor options.
If you’re looking for high culture, Balboa Park features a number of museums (the Reuben H. Fleet and Natural History museums are great for kids; the SD Museum of Art and Mingei Internal Museum for adults), beautiful architecture, a botanical garden, and a bit of local history. And for city-folks, the Gaslamp and Hillcrest offer daytime tourism and nighttime activities into the wee hours.
